Upgrade from XP to 8.1

Hello,

I am about to install a Windows 8.1 on my PC, currently on Windows XP. First I would bring down my system, format my disk and bring a clean install. Now, I know that some of you here have installed a pirated Windows 8.1 already or at least didn't buy it, used fake keys, etc. So, I'd like to see someone who has installed Windows 8.1 and how he/she has done it.

Basically, where to get key from, how to install and how not to install, etc. Simillar tips, because I've heard that Windows 8.1 is sort of "special" in regards to its installation.

Currently I am running Windows XP, and since I haven't changed OS, nor formatted disks or anything of sort for 5 years, slowing down is noticed. Windows 8.1 does run better and faster on older PCs, single-core ones and thus it is the reason I am switching to it.

Questions :
Is my processor Amd Sempron 2200+ 32 bit capable of running Win 8.1 ?
Can I switch to Windows 8.1?
How should I install Windows 8.1 on it?

Any tips or anything would be helpful!

P.S : At school in a laboratory full of pc's I had win 8.1, and it worked like a charm. That's why I need to upgrade

I've used an original windows 8.1, updated it, then used KMSpico to active both windows and office.
In my opinion it works better than 7, in some dx11 games i got a 20-30 fps boost.
