Hello guys,

Even though I’m not playing this game anymore, it was a big part of my life, and I’m curious if playing SA-MP in 2025 is safe. THIS video popped up on my YouTube feed, and I was wondering if SA-MP is still getting actual security fixes like Kalcor said (at least from what I remember). Is it safe to join some small servers like in the old days? Or can regular cheaters do more harm now than they could years ago? Let me know.

Yeah, I also know that Open.mp exists, and probably a big part of the servers have moved there — but that brings another question: do they have any kind of anti-cheat? Are they still working on that, or did they completely give up on it like Kyeman did?

It’s not really safe anymore. The original SA-MP client hasn’t received proper security fixes in years — Kalcor pretty much abandoned it, which is exactly why open.mp was created.
open.mp does release security patches fairly actively, but the community around it isn’t great, and most servers are fragmented.
If you just want to join small, private servers, you’ll probably be fine. But be careful with larger public ones — there are known RCE and exploit vectors that can still be abused.
There are a few third-party protection tools, like MiTurboFix (blast.hk) or universal RCE protections (one of which I made myself), that help mitigate some of those risks.

Thank you for reply
Also, do they have any kind of anti-cheat like MTA or do they just not care? Can a server owner ban people in a more efficient way than just banning their IPs like in SA-MP?
This was what stopped me from running my own server back in the day - you had to put a lot of work into making a fun gamemode, then build your own anti-cheat and later deal with people who kept evading bans

I know about one with custom made anticheat injecting thru RCE.
And yea it is calculating hwid and sending to server so they are able to ban you on ur computer and detect it after the ac is loaded.
But everything is spoofable from UM, not RCE abusers have access to gpci only (smthng like serial on documents gta sa user files folder), ip and nickname ofc.
